The AMG thread I mentioned earlier has devolved to the point that a GOP state committee member is now ranting about how the Freemasons and the Illuminati are plotting to create a world government (about par for the course for AMG).
Before things got completely out of hand, Republican Senator Lois Snowe-Mello stopped by to write a stream-of-consciousness post about her recent loss. Click "read more" below to read a good chunk of it. Here's one part I found particularly interesting (the illustration is mine):
Tell me why did Mike Vaughan not get elected? It certainly was not the puppy mill thing. He and I worked against Socialized Health Care and Health Ins.and we opposed Ld.2247 and fought against its passage. WE also collected signatures to repeal this new tax that funded Dirigo. Maine People's Alliance made it there mission to get rid of us. The Maine People's Alliance worked against both Mike and I. They called and went door to door passing out literature against us. We need a Republican Organization like that far left group to counter them every step of the way. Isn't it odd that the folks who worked to get Referendum one on the ballot lost our races? That includes Senator Paula Benoit?
Nice job MPA.
The group recently sent an email to their membership with these striking statistics about their electoral efforts:
76,664 doors knocked
132,487 phone calls made
57,026 personal conversations with voters
45,303 pieces of literature left at doorsteps
226,485 mail pieces sent
18,139 signatures collected
2,340 new MPA members recruited
They also report having registered 4,000 new voters.
Here are Lois Snowe-Mello's remarks pertaining to the election:
Okay you have got me going. First of all I did nothing wrong with the puppy mill issue and am sick to death for being labled for this. I have two adorable Westies and four cats. I made it very clear to everyone that last summer and during session that I did not support puppy mills. But the legislation that was presented to the Agriculture Committee was a dangerous bill. It would have effected folks who have sporting dogs as well as good breeders. This coming year there is a bill that will be presented that also has problems that will hurt those who raise dogs. LET ME BE LOUD AND CLEAR. I DO NOT SUPPORT PUPPY MILLS. The other issue where the PETA group wanted to get rid of me was because of a bill I submitted for my constituent. The tax on puppy's that are not fixed was hurting his business so I asked in the legislation to change the funding. It is not all my fault that I lost. I worked like a dog. The only thing I will say is that I was advised wrong. I should have put on a radio ad on "Frank" and corrected the Puppy MIll fiasco. The team up in Augusta thought that if we ignore it it would go away. That is why Ray ,I did not come down to meet with you and Mayor Jenkins. Perhaps all do respect to the goodf Mayor Jenkins ( who I dearly love ) if he had let me know a month ago that he would endorse me I would not be in this situation. My election team in Augusta did not want me to be a target for the radical left PETA to call on your show and bring this up again.
I support "DO PROCESS OF THE LAW". No Dept in Augusta should be above the law. No one should be presumed guilty before innocence. This was a concern regarding illegal search and seizure. Also I did not call the Dept. a Gestapo, I was simply repeating and clarifying what I heard. I had said that I was shocked to hear that term regarding the Dept's head of Animal Welfare. Their were other people at that meeting who vouched for me.. The Sun Journal was being pretty petty and immature to make that comment in the paper before elections. That just proves that we have fallen down as Republicans in not defending our own and getting our message out. When we see folks who vote against a legislator who has a pretty perfect record as I did for not raising taxes, to overturn LD 2247 and working deligently by debating on the floor of the Senate against it, but for Free market reform and for affordable Accessable Health Insurance we needed to get tht out to the people to know. Did you realize that I had a 95% MERI rating, Endorsed by Allliance For Maine's Future. I had a honor roll rating with the League of Conservation voters. I also was endoresed by NFIB and NRA -A+. I was pretty upset when I read that SAM gave my opponent an A also, even thought they endorsed me it really did not give much weight to me. Do you think that helped me with the hunters? I had one of the best records in Augusta and I am proud of it. I was caught in the cross fire of Obama machine and targetted by Baldacci and the Maine People's Alliance. If people voted against me because of the Puppy Mills fiasco then God forbid we have an electorate who have their priorities in the wrong place. My strong record as a Legislator should have been able to with stand that. Then I would have also said that perhaps instead of knockiing down my oppenent perhaps the ads done by an independent group should have spoken about how hard I worked and told folks why I must return as their Senator for the people of this State. Loosing this race, was a blow and this is almost like a death in the family. I am proud of my twelve years and sad that it ends this way. Imagine how I feel? The last thing I needed to read was folks I know belittle me and make one issue I tried to make common sense out of a issue on why I lost. [...]
I have spoken to many folks and most everyone believes I lost my race because of the huge amount of folks who were newly registered Democrats. I have been told they were instructed to vote Demorat straight down the ticket. It is time that we write letters to the editor whenever the State Democrats and Baldacci mess up, it is time we write letters and articles like Ray does when the National Democrats mess up. We will have plenty of ammunition. Get your pens out. It is nice that you all talk on this blog, perhaps you aught to put your thoughts on paper and mail it to the News Paper. I regularly wrote articles in the Twin city Times. I think that was a mistake as well.
For the month of Sept and October I was not allowed to get my thoughts out there. That was also a mistake.
Now I would like to speak about the two fine men who did win in Auburn. Mike B worked tiressly also to get elected. Bruce Bickford did it on his own. Neither of them were targeted and had opponents who were really awful or did not go door to door. The City of Auburn Republicans worked hard to help out, but Bruce figured out by himself how he needed to get elected. I am thrilled that they both got in.

Democrats stick together and they fight for one another and they do not eat each other up in public.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank my campaign team at home and in Augusta for working their hearts out to see me get elected. Unfortunately it did not work out.
