Mary Bonauto of Protect Maine Equality and Marc Mutty of Stand For Marriage Maine face off on WLBZ/WCSH:
Enough already, Marc.
Mutty makes a comment that the No on 1 campaign "readily admits that they already have access to these rights by other means". But they're not. The blurb on the No on 1 site says "EVEN IF these rights WERE available through other means," etc. But these rights are NOT available by other means. Marriage is the only thing that provides these rights as well as the dignity & recognition that gay & lesbian couples seek. Stop twisting words, Marc Mutty.

I'd have to agree. It's as if Mutty's not that into it. He's leaning back the entire time and seems content to just talk about small details of the campaign and the law rather than make the broader case for his side. His other TV appearances so far have been similar.
Perhaps he's trying to seem reasonable and not come off as a fire-breathing bigot, but overall he just seems unengaged.
"question 1 Mutty vs. Bonuato
Yes Mr. Mutty it is about dignity!
.... and well it should be.
When Rosa Parks sat in the front of the bus it was not about transportation. The back of the bus moved just as fast and in the same direction as the front of the bus. It was the indignity of being forced to the rear of the bus that made her take her seat up front. Her actions, as have been the struggles and actions of so many others throughout history, were not simply been about rights but about human dignity. Dignaty is served by equality and it is diminished through the predudice of exclusivity. Yes it is about dignity....and Maine will stand with dignity on November 3rd!!
They just showed the interview
They just showed the interview on the last half hour of WCSH 6 News this morning. Both Mutty and Bonuato came across as a little subdued. Still Bonuato came out the winner. Mutty came across as smug and, as Kylie said, didn't really make his case as much as attempt to cut down No on 1's campaign. If, like Mutty says, the majority of voters have already decided, the he seemed to conduct the interview with an air of defeat. Maybe I'm reading into it too much. I did already vote No on 1.
Vote NO on 1! Vote NOW by Absentee!
It wasn't difficult for Bonauto to break down Mutty's arguments, if they can be called arguments. He raised only two issues - that same-sex marriage will be taught in schools, and that we are attempting to redefine marriage. The reality is that the law will have no effect on schools and doesn't even mention anything about education. Topics in equality, tolerance, and acceptance of other families have been taught for years in Maine schools. We are not redefining marriage - we're making it equal, just as we did in 1967 by allowing interracial couples to marry, or before that when women were given an equal ground in marriage rather than being property of their husband. Back then, Mutty also would have accused us of redefining marriage - he'd say that marriage is only between people of the same race, or that women don't have a right to choose who they marry. Thank-you Mary!
As supporters of Marriage Equality, we cannot afford to become complacent - that's how we lost California! Make sure you vote and encourage others to vote as well! The vote is very soon - November 3rd, and I recommend voting absentee. I've already gotten my family and friends to request their absentee ballot. You can do the same thing NOW by visiting http://www.VoteEarlyMaine.org and please vote NO on 1!
Don't they know we know they're gay?
Anyone who's taken abnormal psych knows that these "pro marriage" guys are closeted gay men. Do they think we don't know it, or are they just looking for dates?
