Maine Economic Development Commissioner and former House Speaker John Richardson is announcing his candidacy for governor this morning at a rally in Brunswick, becoming the 2,354th candidate in the race.

Richardson's day job is also in the news. He faces a $900,000 reduction in his department's budget as the legislature continues to make deep cuts in state spending.
