Culter's New Ad

Eliot Cutler's first post-primary ad:

Just like Maine?

What an intriguing TV spot! First, it is so well shot, edited and scored. Second, the buy is so well-timed. Interest is still high because the primary ended with some momentum for Libby Mitchell and a big surprise by Paul LePage. Third, It combines some broad issue talk with Cutler's Maine roots

Maine voters have always wanted to "get to know" their candidates before anything else. The lines Cutler drew between himself and the other two "extreme" nominees were anticipated. But maybe what wasn't anticipated was the ending motif: Independent, Just like Maine.

Is Cutler really just like Maine? He lives in one of Maine's wealthiest towns, Cape Elizabeth. He has socked away a bit himself, I hear. So what makes that ending so interesting? Cutler is going out right now with an undeniable emotional claim. He's just like Maine. Let the other candidates stake their bona fides! Or, I guess it is "Beana fides" here.

Anyway it is sure fun to have some excitement back in Maine politics!

No Slogans

I thought he had a slogan: "Maine Can Work."

What a great spot. I'm with

What a great spot. I'm with Al on this -- Cutler really gets the heart strings with this one. I was already looking at him due to his strong fiscal conservative/social moderate message. This has done nothing to dissuade me otherwise. I like his message and I like him.

Quite frankly, Libby is the architect of Maine's current problems and Paul is simply too conservative and, I believe, lacks the experience and vision for Maine.

Cutler it is.

Culter's New Ad

It's a very good ad, and professionally done.

He's saying very good things here, but it's extremely general, as one tends to find in a TV spot in most cases.

Mainers are sophisticated. Endorsements and money were (obviously) far removed from being decisive factors in both primaries.

Who Mainers decides is "the real deal" is an open question.
