Go read Jeff Inglis' piece on the condition of the Maine state email system, then despair.
11 members of the Judiciary Committee voted today to give the same-sex marriage bill an "ought-to-pass" recommendation. Two committee members voted against the bill and one voted to "pass as amended" with an automatic referendum attached.
There are four Republicans on the committee. I haven't heard yet how each individual legislator voted.
Update: Jeff Inglis has the votes by member. The vote was along party lines with the exception of Republican Representative Michael Beaulieu of Auburn, who voted with the majority. Senator David Hastings (R-Oxford) proposed the automatic referendum amendment.
Go read M.D. Harmon's strange column in the Portland Press Herald today on the dangers of same-sex marriage.
Now go read Jeff Inglis' detailed response on the Portland Phoenix blog.
On a side note: I'm going to stop the top-ten feature for a while (as you've probably noticed). I found myself not wanting to post on issues and events because they had already been mentioned in the daily list, and this blog was never meant to be an aggregator.
